The cancer crisis: Psychological impact on family caregivers

For years, medical fraternity has only focused on the stress that a cancer patient undergoes, with little (or no) attention paid to the caregivers. Initial studies showed evidence of cancer caregivers (primarily the spouse) often experiencing sleep issues, loss of appetite or stressful eating, increased anxiety and depression and a constant sense of helplessness apart from fear of the cancer and its route of treatment.
